We pay our hardworking, wonderful staff as much as we can afford, rather than as little as we can get away with. We invest in, train and develop our people (75% of our managers were promoted from Team Leaders). Our starting salary is $43 an hour (after 10 days, including bonus).  The bonus is weekly and linked to how well your shop fares with the weekly independent mystery shopper. We run many workshops at our busy Pret Academy in Causeway Bay (most of which have nothing to do with sandwich making). Our training programmes seem to work. We will continue to invest heavily in our employees' development. We don't sit on our backsides talking about staff 'training and development'. We actually get on and do it.

Over the years, our staff and managers have documented what they believe makes a really successful 'Pret Person'.   

We call it "Don't Want To See" and "Pret Perfect!". Actually, it's pretty obvious stuff but it helps to write it down and remember it! It applies to everybody, from our CEO, Clive Schlee, to the Team Member on his or her first day.
